The Beginning

"We did not inherit a business. We inherited a craft — one tied, knot by knot, over four generations."

Nitin Garg, Co-Founder

Giada Studio did not begin in a design studio or a corporate boardroom. It began on the looms of a family-owned mill in Agra, India — more than a century ago — where Nitin Garg's ancestors first learned to tie knots that would outlast generations.

Four generations of the Garg family dedicated their lives to the craft of fine rug making. What began as a small workshop grew into a fully integrated mill — from fiber sourcing and natural dyeing to hand-knotting and finishing — all managed in-house with the precision of a family that builds for legacy, not volume.

When Nitin's deep craft heritage met Julien Hakoun's contemporary design sensibility, Giada Studio was born. Together, they set out to solve a problem the industry had long ignored: that the finest hand-knotted rugs were inaccessible, uncustomizable, and opaque to most designers and their clients.

The Journey

Milestones that shaped our craft

1920s

The first loom

Nitin's great-grandfather establishes a hand-knotting workshop in Agra, India — a city already renowned for its carpet-making tradition. The Garg family joins a lineage of artisans that would define the region's craft identity for generations.

1970s

A craft passed down

Three generations deep, the family expands into a fully integrated mill. Each generation adds knowledge — new fiber sources, refined dyeing processes, and deeper weaving expertise — all while preserving the hand-knotting tradition at the core.

2010

Nithen joins the mill

After studying design and materials in Europe, Nitin Garg returns to Agra with a new perspective. He begins modernizing the mill's processes, introducing quality controls and design capabilities that prepare it for an international clientele.

2018

Giada Studio is born

Nitin meets Julien Hakoun in Paris. Their complementary visions — heritage craft meets contemporary design sensibility — align immediately. Together they found Giada Studio, bridging the family mill in India with discerning designers and clients worldwide.

Our Core Beliefs

The principles we live by

01

Quality over quantity

We make every rug to order. There is no warehouse, no overstock, no compromise. Every piece begins with your space and ends with an heirloom crafted to last generations.

02

Heritage informs innovation

Every contemporary design we bring to life is rooted in over 100 years of artisanal knowledge. We do not copy tradition — we carry it forward.

03

Craft is connection

A hand-knotted rug is more than an object. It is the connection between the hands that made it, the space it inhabits, and the people who live within that space.

04

Partnership over transaction

We work closely with every designer and client — from the first consultation to final installation. Your vision guides every decision we make.
